If students can’t decode words to high levels of fluency, they are severely handicapped in meeting the requirements for success in their entire school career. We must accelerate the acquisition of decoding skills of our underperforming students.

FULL WORKSHOPS WITH TEACHERS –All Seven Original Strategies
A few years ago, for two full days, I led workshops with a group of elementary grade teachers focusing on my culture-centered accelerated phonics on Day 1 and a group of my vocabulary, writing, and reading comprehension teaching strategies on Day 2. These workshops were videotaped.

Here is the complete set of the Day 1 PHONICS videotapes presented all together for the first time. See my book: Phonics and Vocabulary Building Guidebook for step-by-step written explanations and reviews of each of these seven phonics strategies.

  • Original Books Of Stories That Use My Highly Recurring Phonic Elements
  • To Accelerate The Decoding Of Words On Various Levels Of Difficulty

For years, teachers have asked me for student books that coordinate with my Highly Recurring Phonic Elements Chart and all my phonics teaching strategies. Well here they are! This series of books are used to accelerate the progression of decoding skills from beginning reading in kindergarten to second grade level.

Books 1-5 are currently in the final editing stages and are being posted here. Books 6-12 will be ready to post soon.

These books offer underperforming students more variety in content and faster mastery of decoding skills than traditional early reading programs. Each lesson builds on the previous lesson so that students avoid gaps in their learning that often occurs when using other types of reading programs. The self-illustration feature adds to the popularity of these books and serves as an assessment of reading comprehension.

Researchers generally agree that 13-15 words account for about 35% of all printed material and about 25 words make up approximately one third of all written text. The general consensus is that approximately 100 words make up about half of all words in print, that 300 words comprise about 60% of reading material, and 1,000 words account for approximately 90%. Because of the obvious power of attaining fluency in reading these high frequency words, Augusta teaches a list of 1,000 to be mastered before 2nd grade.
